Vectorworks Collaboration Mural

Vectorworks, Inc. is a CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and BIM (Building Information Modeling) software company designed for architecture, landscape, entertainment, and interior industries.

In 2022, Vectorworks relocated its corporate office to a spacious 44,547-square-foot area. This move was motivated by the company's commitment to accommodate its expanding workforce, infuse the workplace with renewed energy, and enhance the overall employee and visitor experience.

This mural was part of a set of assets that Vectorworks submitted for the 🏆 Good Design Award.

Challenge
We were tasked to illustrate and design a collaborative mural to adorn the central space of our new office. The aim is to empower individuals to unleash their creativity, leave their mark, and let their imaginations soar freely. It also serves as a reminder of our "Design without limits" tagline.

As the in-house graphic designer at Vectorworks, I:

Illustrated the tool sets and characters
Iterated through multiple versions and collaborated with another in-house designer (Tristan Gerald)
Helped clean up and prepare file for print
Tested permanent, water-based, alcohol-based, oil-based, and acrylic paint markers

In the beginning, we weren’t sure how to populate the environment (design by Tristan Gerald). I started by gathering some past projects and illustrating co-workers at the office. Further exploration led to slack emojis, office supplies, caffeinated drinks, plants, and impossible geometry.

We came back to the idea of using characters doing some extreme sport action on 3D modeling tool icons from the Vectorworks software.

These characters represent our customers—designers utilizing Vectorworks software to bring their incredible projects to life. The activities push boundaries beyond the normal and perfectly captures the “Design without limits” tagline.

We also included some early ideas with colleagues working, caffeine beverages, and other objects to support the scene.
